SECOND PROTOCOL AGREEMENT FOR REPSOL GROUP

The Second Protocol Agreement for the Repsol Group was signed today at Repsol Head Offices, between Alfonso Cortina, Repsol Chairman and CEO, and the General Secretaries of Spanish Trade Unions, Josu Frade Odriozola (FIA-UGT) and Joaqun Gonzlez Muntadas (FITEQA-CCOO ).

Through this Second Protocol Agreement, for the term 1999-2001, Repsol consolidates a model of labour and trade union relationships which is unique in Spain, and moves towards coherence, uniformity and solidarity in work conditions within the Group.

This Agreement applies to approximately 15,000 employees in Repsol, and these are some of the aspects it contemplates:

  • Salary increase over the next three years will be 0.4% above the annual CPI, estimated at 2.2% for 1999.
  • The employment policy.
  • Some 865 employees are expected to leave through early retirement and compensation. 658 newcomers will probably join the company to replace these and, mostly, to undertake new activities.
  • Work hours will be reduced by 24 hours over the three years.
  • Permanent part-time contracts are also expected to increase substantially (a total of 450 contracts).
  • Other aspects: training contracts, transfers of staff between group companies, risk prevention at work, safety and health.
