| REPSOL-ASTRA: ACQUISITION OF LPG ASSETS IN ARGENTINA
|
Algas is a company which bottles,
transports and markets LPG, and whose major assests are 24 bottling plants, 29
distribution deposits, 11,500 m3 of LPG storage, 210 vehicles, and a
total number of 2,7million of bottles. This acquisition also includes other
additional assets not linked to the LPG business. The total volume of the Argentine LPG
market totals 900,000 metric tons per year, in which Algas is one of the major
companies in the sector with a market share of around 13%. Other leading
companies present in the Argentine LPG market are Argon, YPF, and Autogas, who
along with Algas, represent around 70% of the total. The remaining 30% is shared
by more than 55 small distributors. At present, the sector is experiencing a
deep restructuring process, in which managerial groups are being formed around
the major international oil companies. This operation represents the entrance
of the Repsol-Astra Group, a LPG producer, in the Argentina liquid petroleum gas
distribution and marketing market, in which it had not participated previously.
This would bring about a vertical integration of all the business areas of this
company in South America, where it has already carried out activities of
hydrcarbon exploration and production, refining and marketing of oil products,
distribution of natural gas and electricity. Repsols activities in Argentine have
gradually grown, until reaching a considerable presence. With the purchase of
its stake in Astra last year, and the subsequent acquisitions through the same
of Pluspetrol Energy, S.A., Mexpetrol Argentina and the recent ones of Grupo
Comercial de la Plata (GCP) y JME Inversiones, Repsol has consolidated and
strengthened its presence in Argentina. |
