Repsol and
Columbian International have signed an agreement to transfer the carbon black
assets currently owned by Repsol Qumica to the North American
company.
This agreement covers the acquisition of carbon black facilities
pertaining to Repsol Qumica at Gajano (near Santander, in Cantabria) with a
capacity of 40,000 tonnes per year. The purchasing price is subject to a secrecy
clause.
This transaction is in line with Repsol's policy of concentrating
its chemical activities on those strategic lines of business in which the
company is most competitive. In this case, the Gajano production centre is to be
strengthened by a planned re-vamping, thus reinforcing Repsol's rubber
business.
Columbian International is one of the world's greatest
producers of carbon black and the acquisition of the Santander plant
consolidates and raises its presence in Europe, where it already owns facilities
in Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom and Hungary.
