REPSOL YPF SPONSORS THE EXHIBITION TREASURES OF THE ROYAL ACADEMY OF HISTORY

Repsol YPF has sponsored an exhibition entitled "Treasures of the Royal Academy of History", opened today by Her Majesty Queen Sofia of Spain, at the temporary exhibition halls in the Royal Palace, Madrid.

Organised by the Royal Academy of History in collaboration with National Heritage, the purpose of this exhibition is to raise awareness of one of Spains most emblematic cultural institutions, the Royal Academy of History, founded by Felipe V in 1738. 310 carefully selected objects will be on show until the end of July, including codices, documents, maps, paintings, sculptures and coins, making up an entertaining and interesting sample of the Academys treasures, disclosing details of this institutions history and role in the present and the future.

It is the first time many of these pieces have left the Academy to go on show to the public. Such is the case of Teodosios Disc, a masterpiece of late-Roman western art; a codex containing Emilian Glossaries, the first known document in the Spanish and Basque languages; the veil of Hixem II, the last Cordovan Caliph; a small chest belonging to Henry II, "el Humano"; and the Altar-Relic from the Monastery of Stone, major example of Aragonese Mudejar Gothic.

Repsol YPF gives generous funding to the sponsorship of cultural projects of all kinds, including music, art, and the restoration of cultural heritage, and support for academic, educational and social institutions.
