Super petrol with lead is currently being replaced throughout Europe by lead-free petrol. In fact, it has already disappeared from 6 countries of the European Union : Germany, Holland, Finland, Austria, Denmark and Sweden. The European Directive project on fuels foresees the elimination of 97 octane petrol with lead from January 1^st, 2,000 (with a possible extension in some countries).

The car manufacturers’ recommendations indicate that the majority of cars currently using Super with lead can, in its place, use Eurosuper. However, more than 4 million cars use petrol with lead when they could already benefit from the advantages of Eurosuper.

All the power your car needs

Some drivers believe, erroneously, that the number of octanes in petrol is an indicator of quality and power. You can use a petrol with a higher octane count with no problem but this does not mean that you will obtain more power. Each car should use the petrol with the octane count recommended by the manufacturer.

In addition, the Repsol, Campsa and Petronor petrol stations apply a discount of nearly 2 pesetas per litre on the official maximum price of 95 octane lead-free petrol (actual data, average first quarter 1997 - 1,04 pesetas/litre).
