It is never a bad idea to carry out a number of checks on your vehicle with enough time in advance of the journey. You should not forget  :

1.- Tyres. Check the pressure of the tyres, including the spare, as well as the tread. Adapt the pressure of the tyres according to the manufacturer’s instructions, taking into account the car load.

2.- Lights. Check the indicator lights, front headlights and rear brake lights. Don’t forget that you are obliged to have a spare set of bulbs in the car.

3.- Oil, brake fluid, anti-freeze and power-steering liquid. Check the levels.

4.- Brake pads. Check they are in perfect condition.

5.- Idle revolutions. Check that they are correct. In injection cars this control is automatic.

6.- State of the belts, especially the distribution belts. If they break the consequences are serious. You are obliged to have a spare fan belt, in perfect condition.

7.- It is advisable to carry a box of tools, a torch and fire extinguisher in appropriate conditions of use.
