Video-based security
This is one of the most popular current options: installing small security cameras in the areas of access to the home. The images can be viewed on returning to the home or else can be seen via an Internet connection, accessed with a personal code, from any computer connected to a network.

Another way of connecting these cameras is by using a watch service provided by a private security company. In these cases, our home will be visible from the company's headquarters when we connect the alarm on leaving our house. The company will then take appropriate measures if necessary. This option is more expensive than the previous one and requires regular maintenance, which means an monthly or annual payment.

Sensors
Another very effective option is to install a sensor-based system. These can be installed in every room or in those that are easier to access from outside. There are three types of sensors available: volume-based, that detect the movement of a foreign body or object; ultrasonic-based, that detect any out of the ordinary sound; and infra-red, that perceive temperature changes within their radius.

The aim of all these systems is to recognise any foreign presence in the room in question. They are activated on leaving the home and if an intruder is detected, the alarm will go off. If connected to a security service, the police or private security company will be advised immediately.

Simulation of occupation
These systems are aimed at avoiding robbery or obtaining proof against any intruders. However, prevention is the best way of avoiding possible burglaries in the home, which is why many are looking to systems that simulate the presence of people in the home.

These devices connect to the electric system and are programmed to switch on the light and/or radio at a given time and with a given intensity. They also have a timer which switches of the lights and electric items at an established time. This is a highly recommended solution, above all if you are thinking of leaving your home several days or weeks before the summer break.

Additionally, if you have automatic blinds, they can be programmed to open or close at a given time, thus creating an impression to outsiders that the house is occupied.
