Insulation: The most powerful air conditioner will not be efficient if the home is not adequately insulated. Protections systems, such as blinds and awnings, will prevent the sun's rays from shining directly on to the windows.
Temperature: Should be around 25C. Each centigrade under that consumes 10% more energy. You should install a thermostat if the apparatus does not have one or if it lacks a temperature gauge.
Bear in mind that - You will save energy if you take advantage of the fresh air at night to ventilate the house and refresh the surroundings.
- It is best to disconnect the air conditioner when there is no-one in the house or when a room is empty. There is no need to keep the house cold throughout the day: the desired temperature can be reached in just a few minutes.
Advice on the apparatus. Ventilation: most air conditioners have a ventilator that is often sufficient to bring down the temperature by three to five degrees.
Mobility: Buying a portable apparatus that can be moved if you require fresh air in more than one room is very useful.
Compressor: installed in a well ventilated area, away from the heat and direct sunlight.
Maintenance: It is advisable to clean the air filter every 15 days. Dirty filters and deposits covered in dust cause the motor to work overtime and reduce efficiency.
Hot air pump: If you purchase an air conditioning system with a hot air pump for winter, it could save you about half the cost of a conventional heating system.
