Materials:
- A wooden board approximately 80 cm long by 25 cm wide. You can use plywood, which is cheaper.
- Iron chain 2 cm thick (available in hardware stores).
- Flat black paint for metal.
- Powdered nogaline for wood.
Steps:
1. With a wood file, round off the edges and sharp points of the board. Try to do it unevenly so as to simulate the wear-and-tear of the passage of time. The more scrapes it has, the older the board will look.
2. Clean the board well with a dry cloth and proceed to stain it. The stain is nogaline with water. The tone is attenuated with the amount of water you add. Apply the stain with a flat brush and give it several coats. If the board is not covered with the first coat or does not have the color you want, apply another coat. Let one coat dry before you add another so as not to streak the paint.
3. Use wax for wood, the same color as the board or darker. Spread it with a cotton cloth that does not shed and a few minutes later, polish the wood.
4. The chain, which will be the shelf�s only support, has to be cut and painted in advance. It must have the length you want to be visible on the wall, plus the width of the board. Hang the chain with a wall plug and a medium-sized hook, and put the board in place in such a way that it is tense and firm.
Advices:
To give a more rustic look, you can cover the hooks with a large iron nail or tack, which you can buy in hardware stores. These will serve as decorations.
