Utility: Making a new bedspread or decorating an old one to give a rustic look to your bedroom.
Difficulty: Medium.
Cost: Medium.
Materials: - Sturdy cotton fabric.
- Scraps of fabric, either old or newly purchased
- Tapestry cord and colored tassels.
Steps:
1. Cut out a rectangle of fabric to suit the size of the bed. This will serve as the base of the bedspread. Sew a hem around it, if possible with a sewing machine.
2. Cut a sheet of thin fabric, and place it over the base to make sure it is the right size. Sew the remnants onto this fabric, placing them at random to create a patchwork effect. They can be the same color, but make sur they are of different patterns and sizes.
3. Now we sew this on the bedspread. We need to center properly this piece of fabric we have just made and which is going to give the room a country-style look. To cover up the seams, sew a cord around the edges. It should go well with the colors of the remnant. Sew a tassle on to each corner.
Advices: You ca make matching cushions with left over fabric. You can also follow these steps to make quilts, colored tapestries to hang on the wall, or rugs.
