Change baseboards and brighten up your house
Utility: Replace the baseboards and modernize your home
Difficulty: Average
Cost: Medium
Materials:
- Rectangular tiles for baseboard (in construction supply stores)
- Tools for removing old baseboard
- Glue, or silicone if the surface area is large
- Scraper for the wall

Steps:
1. Measure the room and calculate how many tiles you need to make the new baseboard. Soak them for 10 hours so they dont crack or break when being handled. These tiles must go with the rest of the furniture and with the tone of the wall and the floor, always depending on the taste of the homeowner.
2. Carefully remove the old baseboard with a hook and a hammer. Do this very slowly (dont remove more than six pieces at a time) so as to stain as little as possible. Once this is done, sand down the wall so the new tiles will adhere properly. Do this with a scraper or thick sandpaper until the surface is nice and smooth.
3. When the wall is smooth, apply a thin layer of glue or silicone to each tile and then press each tile firmly to the wall. Choose tiles with a pattern that is easy to join up. Tiles with an individual flower or a simple border will make things easier.

Advices:
The room will take on a rustic look if you use clay tiles, or a youthful one if you pick tiles with flowers or hearts. In a studio the tiles will make the room look bigger. It is best to choose a different one for each room and thus avoid monotony.
