Utility: Gives warmth to a room
Difficulty: High.
Cost: High.
Materials: - Wooden beams (they are hollow, come in various colours and can be bought in DIY shops)
- Cement paste
- Masonry tools to hollow out a wall and then fill it with cement
- Wax for the beams
Steps:
1. Measure the height of the room and calculate the number of beams required if set at metre and half intervals. They come in a single length and are hollow so that they can fit into the wall, which needs to be indented in advance.
2.
Draw the space in which the beam will be placed with a pencil and indent the area with a small pick. Fill in the indent with cement paste and install the beam ensuring that it must end up level with the wall and should hardly protrude, meaning we must calculate the width of the beam.
3. Prefabricated beams are easy to cut with a wood saw, but cannot be joined together, which is why you have to ensure they are long enough. Clean the leftover cement around the beams before it dries with water and a jute cloth. When finished, carefully pass over the beams with a good wax.
Advices: Gives the room a unique and original look and will no doubt attract the attention of all visitors.
