Tools Drill, wall plugs, screws, screwdriver and level

Where to place it o Naturally, you place it right above the kitchen stove. o The smoke intake hole should be right over the stove. o The minimum distance between the lower part of the hood and the kitchen counter should be 65 to 75 cm, depending on whether the stove is electric, gas or a mix of both. o This kind of hood should have its own exhaust outlet. It should not be connected to existing outlets for smoke or hot air, such as for furnaces, fireplaces, heaters, etc.

Body of the hood o Many models come with a diagram that shows you how to set the hood on the wall or in the ceiling, if the stove is in the middle of the kitchen, for instance. These instructions will tell you the exact place to drill and install the plugs and screws. o Mark the vertical axis with a level or plumb line from the center of the smoke exhaust outlet, if it is the center of the hood, to the stove. If that hole is not in the center, you will have to install an appropriate bend to reach it. o Mark the spots where the decks that will support the weight of the hood will go. Drill, and screw in firmly. Don't forgive the minimum safety space you should leave between the hood and the stove. Make sure the decks are level.

Exhaust tube
o Normally the exhaust tube does not come with the hood set. o It can be rigid or flexible, but must always be of the right diameter. It is best not to use reduction tubes or bends. o Extractors are designed so the tubes are installed simply by pressing them into place and applying lateral screws.
o All you have left to do now is install the decorative sheets by screwing them into the plugs you will have drilled into the wall beforehand. o These sheets tend to be adjustable to suit different ceiling heights. This way you don't have to make cuts.

Connection o Before you connect the two, make sure you have removed all the packing material that manufacturers tend to put inside the hood. o If the hood has a protective coating of plastic, remove it. o Be sure the electrical system and other features of the hood correspond to those of your home. o Install the filters in the base of the hood. o Turn the hood on, and run a test with each of its positions to see that all of them work properly.

Tips o Hoods should be plugged into an outlet that is grounded. If they have a direct connection from the wall, three cables should be installed: phase, neutral and ground. o While connecting these cables, if necessary, make sure you turn off the master switch. o Clean the filters and hood periodically to avoid accidents stemming from accumulation of grease. o Disconnect the hood before changing its light bulbs.
