Synopsis: A group of criminals are preparing to rob a jewellery store, led by the veteran delinquent Doc Reidenschneider (Sam Jaffe) who has spent his years in prison planning this perfect crime. To carry out his plan, Doc is helped by Dix Handley (Sterling Hayden), a small-time thief, the hunchback Gus (James Whitmore) and Ciavelli (Anthony Caruso), safe specialist. A reputable lawyer called Emmerich (Louis Calhern), agrees to finance the robbery. However, as a result of the conspiracies and betrayals of some of the gang, the operation does not quite proceed as planned.
