Synopsis: Three members of the Moscow Chamber of Commerce are sent to Paris to sell some jewels seized by the government to and buy machines with the proceeds. Count L�on d'Algout (Melvyn Douglas), lover of Duchess Swana (Ina Claire), who was the owner of some of the jewels, is able to stop the sale by introducing the three Russians to the life of the city and thus holding back the functionaries' mission. To clear up the situation, Superintendent Ninotchka (Greta Garbo) arrives in Paris, where she gets to know Le�n, who falls in love with her without knowing who she is. In spite of her initial misgivings, the love of the Count and the Parisian atmosphere slowly get the better of Ninotchka.
