Synopsis: Otis B. Driftwood (Groucho Marx) is an outlandish figure that is given $200,000 dollars by a rich old woman by the name of Mrs Claypool (Margaret Dumont), to invest in the New York opera with the consent of the businessman Herman Gottlieb (Siegfried Rumann). Gottlieb is delighted with the idea and suggests contracting the great Rodolfo Lassparri (Walter Wolf King). The famous tenor is infatuated with Rosa (Kitty Carlisle), a young soprano who is in love with the chorister Ricky Baroni (Allan Jones). However Fiorello (Chico Marx), Baroni's friend, is able to confuse Driftwood with the help of the loyal Tomasso (Harpo Marx), thus persuading Driftwood to take on the unknown chorister by making him believe he is Lassparri, which leads to all sorts of mayhem right up until the premiere.
