Synopsis: Before taking her vows, the young Viridiana (Silvia Pinal), decides to visit her uncle Don Jaime (Fernando Rey), who has retired to a large country house. When he sees the young girl, Don Jaime is struck by the similarity to his deceased wife, who died on their wedding day. Viridiana refuses to marry her uncle, who asks her to put on his wife's wedding dress before leaving and drugs her in order to take advantage of her. In the end he does not go through with it, but when he confessese the truth to Viridiana she is shocked and prepares to leave. Her uncle commits suicide and she feels responsible. To alleviate her feelings of guilt, she decides devote her life to helping out beggars, to the surprise of Jorge (Francisco Rabal), the son of Don Jaime.
