Synopsis: Private detective Miles Archer (Jerome Cowan) is murdered while working for Miss Wonderly (Mary Astor), following a man named Thursby. Archer's partner Sam Spade (Humphrey Bogart) decides to investigate the killing, and meets with Miss Wonderley. He learns her real name is Brigid O' Shaughnessy and that is being threatened by the presumed killer of Archer. Fascinated by her, Spade helps the woman. While seeking the truth Spade comes across a series of people joined by a desire to get ahold of the Maltese falcon, a black statuette decorated with gems.
