Synopsis: Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) is an Arizona secretary, in love with Sam Loomis (John Gavin), whom she wants to marry despite the crippling debts he has inherited from his father. Desperate to start a new life with her lover, she runs off with 40,000 dollars that her boss has asked her to take to the bank, first buying a car so as not to arouse suspicions. During the trip a storm breaks out and Marion decides to stop in a motel run by the young and shy Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins), who lives with his old mother. After meditating on what she'd done, Marion decides to head home and give back the money, but as she is taking a shower another woman stabs her. A little while later Lila (Vera Miles), Marion's sister, meets up with Sam to find out what has happened to her sister.
