Synopsis: Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) is a former teacher who wants to write. He accepts a job as a caretaker at the Overlook Hotel in Colorado. It is closed for the winter months because of heavy snow that leaves it isolated. In the past, another caretaker went mad there and killed his wife and daughters with an ax. Still, Torrance moves in with his wife Wendy (Shelley Duvall) and his son Danny (Danny Lloyd). They discover a forbidden room, No. 237. Soon thereafter come strange phenomena that drive Jack to the verge of insanity, making him a threat to his family.
