Chi-Ball

The energy which flows through your body is in constant motion and often seems to escape through the pores of your skin due to the tension and stress of your day to day life. By taking some Chi-Ball classes you will be able to control that energy, relax and enjoy good health.

Chi-Ball
is a relaxing way of doing gentle, slow exercises to New Age music. This technique consists of holding and squeezing coloured balls which give off different aromas, while doing exercises involving flexing and muscle stretching and toning, either on lying on the floor or standing.

Chi
comes from the transcription of the Chinese character Qi (steam, air, breath of life and energy). This term is used by the Chinese to express the idea of strength and power resulting from some mechanical or electrical force, as well as the notion of life force. For them Qi is a non-physical energy which gives life to all living things; plants, animals and human beings alike.

The Chi-Ball enables us to work with our own energy and the energy of the universe. These balls which are impregnated with various aromas will help us to achieve a state of harmony and relaxation which we all need after a hard day at work. We can control the movement of our body, connect our arms with our legs, torso and head, and let our energy flow in all directions. Chi-Ball will also help us to regulate the function of our vital organs.

Difficulty
Minimal. Just follow your teacher�s instructions and let yourself go. It is a therapeutic way of releasing tension, and it will make you stretch every muscle in your body.

Equipment
Basic. Wear comfortable clothing and the most flexible soft leather dance shoes you can find. You can also do the exercises barefoot.

Benefits
Medium term. From the very first class you will experience a state of total physical and mental relaxation. After a month you will have gained mental and physical agility and flexibility, your body will be in better shape, and you will have improved your bodily and emotional self-control. Also when you have a good, well balanced flow of Qi you feel strong, confident and ready to enjoy life. Your skin and heart will be healthier.

Tip
If you have back problems, Chi-Ball is a good therapy as it tones up and strengthens the lumbar muscles. Do it at least twice a week. Ideally you should aim to do it every day as a way to relax. You can also increase your "Qi" by doing meditation exercises. Give it a try.

Qi massage
Stress affects not only your nervous system but your skin too. Which is why you need to regulate your body�s energy flow. In a Qi massage, pressure (shiatsu) is applied with the thumbs on your body�s acupuncture meridians and points (tsubos) and very hot, damp towels (oshiboris) are also used.
