On a beach, in a park, in the north, south, wherever: camping is the best way to enjoy nature on the cheap. And if you want to blend in with the countryside, camp in designated areas.

What does camping offer?
If want you need is cheap lodging, don't think twice. There are campgrounds all over Spain and Europe, some even located inside national parks, next to the beach, in the mountains, etc. You just have to choose the one you like best and which suits your budget.

Campgrounds are broken down into categories: first, second and third. Also, ones located in tourist areas are also more expensive. Usually there is a fee to pay for the tent, another for your vehicle, and another per person in your party, both adults and children. In exchange the camp ground offers basic services such as a shower, telephone, coffee shop or restaurant and some extras like laundry, grocery store, swimming pool, lifeguard and sports facilities. The more luxuries and varied the camp ground, the more expensive it will be.

Camping in the wild
If you want to really get lost in the wilderness and sleep under the stars or in a tent with no one around, camping in the wild is the thing for you. It is essential to check first because this kind of camping is barred in many places and you can land a fine for doing it. At times it is best to plan your vacation ahead and get all the right permits.

In Spain each region has a different policy on this. It is regulated by a decree, so you consult it. For instance, camping in the wild is prohibited in all of Aragon. The goal is to protect the countryside from the damage that humans can cause.

Tips and recommendations
If you are lucky and have managed to set up your tent in an isolated spot, don't forget to follow these instructions strictly: o Don't dump or bury your trash. Take it to a place where it will be collected. o Be careful with fire. In some places you must never light a campfire, and in others there are spots set aside for it. Extinguish the embers and never throw cigarette butts, neither from the car no while walking. o Close all gates and doors you find while hiking. This will keep livestock or other animals from entering or leaving. o Always use designated paths to walk across farmland. Never step on the crops. o If you have a dog with you, keep it on a leash so it does not scare livestock or free roaming animals. o Respect and take care of water sources. o If you are driving along a path, go slowly. Around any bend you might come across animals.

Not without a backpack
Never go camping without a backpack. And packing properly is almost an art. The backpack must be the right size and fit your back to avoid injury, pain and other problems. Don't overpack it. Remember, you are the one who is going to carry it on your shoulders.

Check the weather forecast and decide what you need. Take comfortable clothing, and only things you need. The shoes should be comfortable and support your ankles. And don't forget some thongs for those showers used by lots and lots of people. Include what you will need for the shower: soap, shampoo and a towel, as well as sunscreen. You could also use some insect repellent since you will be in direct contact with nature.

Other essentials are a flashlight and some spare batteries. Plastic sheeting to cover the ground and insulate the tent, and a light raincoat. It might come in handy. If you are going to cook, don't forget the gas stove, some matches, plates and utensils. Take some food and take some precautions, such as washing the food , maintaining a good level of hygiene, washing up carefully, etc.
