Paint stripper, sandpaper, scraper, hot air gun, cloths, brushes, stain -if you wish to colour the wood- and oil special for furniture.

First step: preparing the wood
Let's assume that the wood has been previously varnished or painted or simply that it requires a little preparation before applying the oil:
� Remove the existing varnish or enamel. You can do this with the paint stripper, a sandpaper machine or with a hot air gun.
� Remove the remains of the previous finish with a sandpaper.
� Then remove the dust and clean well using a cloth. The surface should end up smooth, clean and dry.

Applying stain
You can apply directly the oil or to dye the wood using stain for more attractive results:
� To dye the wood, paint on the acrylic stain of your choice with a brush or cotton cloth.
� Remove the dye remains using a clean cloth and leave to dry as long as the manufacturer recommends and 3-4 hours at the very least.
� Once dry, the wood's veneer should be discernible for a more decorative effect.

The oil
You can buy special oils to protect woods in any drug, DIY or hardware store:
� Paint on the oil using a brush. You will notice how the wood easily soaks up the oil.  Cover the entire surface and attempt to avoid dripping.
� Remove the remaining oil after 10 minutes has passed using a cotton cloth that does not lose threads.
� Leave to dry and apply a new layer of furniture oil. You will achieve better protection, above all against damp.
