Built-in and modular closets: keeping the bedroom orderly
por Virginia Verdejo
It happens in homes all the time: there is never enough room to store things, and many times the comfort of a bedroom depends on how well the closet can keep clothes in order. For this reason it is important to plan the distribution of the closet well, using accessories to take advantage of every last corner.

Built-in closets are best
Whatever the size of the bedroom, the best option is a built-in closet. This way you take full advantage of space from one wall to another and from the ceiling to the floor. You can also spare or integrate things architectural features like columns, recesses or cavities. They are easy to create yourself. They need hardly any remodeling. Simply set up a frame, and add some doors, which can be sliding, folding or regular, and line the inside of the closet.

In small rooms it is best to install sliding doors with a mirror. They dont take up space when you open them and the mirror makes the room look bigger. But remember that at least one side of the closet will always be closed.

A place for everything
It is best to plan the inside of the closet in terms of your needs and budget. There are many kinds of drawers, shelves, hangers and so forth. Here are some useful ones:
Folding hangers: the sides are attached to a hydraulic system that lets you raise and lower it by pulling on a bar.
Removable trouser-hangers: there are also removable accessories that combine a wooden divider for pants with a tray for holding objects.
Tie racks: Keeps ties from getting wrinkled and utilizes space that usually goes to waste.
Shoe rack: the most convenient ones are those which adjust to different widths.
Removable trays: they have lateral slots so you can pull them out comfortably. They are cheaper than a chest of drawers and utilize space better for delicate garments.

Modular closets, suit your needs
Modular closets are convenient and inexpensive option. The main advantage is that you can build the closet as you go along, as your need for space grows. They combine as many times as you want and you dont need to do any construction work.

So as not to make a mistake, keep the following tips in mind when buying a modular closet:
The clothes worn most often, like skirts, pants and shirts, should be placed in an easy-to-reach spot and at a height of 1.80 meters at the most so they can be hung easily. The drawers or pants-rack can go down below.
The modular closet should have a minimum height of 1.5 meters so you can hang up long garments such as overcoats and dresses.
Shirts need a vertical space of between 60 and 75 cm and should not be bunched together. It is best to leave 2 cm between the shirts.
Pants that are folded in half and hung need 70 cm and coats need between 80 and 120 cm in length and 25 cm in width.
For short skirts you need 50 cm and for long ones, twice that
