Tools and materials - Pickaxe to make grooves - Plastic tube to embed the electrical cable - Plaster - Small shovel - Tray and water to make plaster for covering the grooves - Transformer - Cable - Halogen lamp with its light bulb
Parts of the halogen lamp o switching it on and off works just like with a regular lamp o the essential parts are an entry cable, the work through which the electrical current flows, a transformer where the change in voltage takes place. Generally it goes in at 220/230 volts and comes out at 12. The third part is the supplementary cable that goes to the halogen mechanism itself. o Later you can install whatever kind of low-voltage light bulb you want, depending on the lighting needs of the room. o There are also normal-voltage halogen reflectors that do not need a transformer. o A halogen lamp allows you to adjust the amount of light emitted. It is a white light with a great capacity for brightening a room.
Where to place it o Normally, halogen lamps are embedded in the ceiling, if it is hollow and made of dry wall, plaster or something similar. But they can also be set in the wall. o In this system the lamp housing and the transformer are embedded in the ceiling (or wall), while the diffuser is flush with the ceiling or sticks out just a bit. o These lamps are ideal for rooms with a low ceiling.
Making the grooves o Trace lines on the wall and ceiling to run the new cable to the place where you want to place the lamp. o Use a pickaxe and hammer to make a small groove, just wide enough to hold the tube that will contain the cables. o In the spot where you are going to embed the transformer and housing, you have to make a hole large enough to work comfortably and introduce these parts. Later they will not be visible. o Cover the tubes and grooves with plaster until the surface is flush with the ceiling or wall. o When it is dry, if necessary sand down before painting.
How to install the lamp o Once you have chosen and prepared the spot, connect the current-carrying cables to the terminals of the transformer. o Attach the transformer to wooden plank or directly onto the surface of the plaster. o Make the connections of the cables that run from the transformer to the lamp housing. o Follow the manufacturer's instructions and use whatever decorative cover is provided.
A tip As with all electrical work, turn off the main electricity switch in your house. But this warning is only applicable when you are connecting cables.
