New switch, small screwdriver, knife and duck tape.

Remove the old switch
� The switches of bedside table lamps are easily changed.
� They are normally made up of two pieces screwed together that contain the two wires of the electric circuit: one continuous and the other cut in two and attached to the terminals of the mechanism. Pressing the button cuts or connects the circuit.
� Unscrew the small screws of the switch.
� Then unscrew the wires from the terminals of the switch and remove the broken mechanism.

Check the wires
� Check the condition and resistance of the copper wires. If they are very fine, cut a little of the covering plastic and reinforce them by twisting.
� Also check that the continuous wire is in perfect condition. If you have to repair it or reinforce the plastic covering, you can do so with the duck tape.

The new switch
� Unscrew the case of the new switch. Open the terminals with a screwdriver and place the copper cable in each part, screwing them down without breaking them.
� Place the other cable inside the mechanism. There may be little joints at each end to keep the cable in place. Place it under these and screw down. This also prevent the cable from moving and prolongs the life of the connections.
� Cover the other side of the switch and screw down. You can now test to see if the connection is ready.

Precaution
� Ensure that the plug is disconnected while you work or else switch off the electricity at the mains.
