Utility: Make pine furniture look antique.
Difficulty: High
Cost: High
Materials: - Unfinished clothesrack (from a do-it-yourself store).
- Sandpaper (wood), medium grain.
- Nogaline.
- Matte varnish.
- Small sponge, fine brush, esparto scouring pad.
Steps:
1. Go over the wood several times with sandpaper until it is completely smooth. Repeat this as many times as necessary. Clean well with a dry cloth until there is no trace of dust.
2. With nogaline you make a dye of the desired color, adding water to make it lighter or darker. Use a small sponge to spread this on the wood, always in the direction of the grain. Allow to dry.
3. Once the wood is completely dry, rub it with an esparto scouring pad to cover up the pores that new wood always has.
4. With a fine brush that does not lose bristles, apply varnish in the direction of the grain. The layer should be thin and uniform, so dont go over the same spot repeatedly.
Advices: When the varnish loses its shine, use a 50-50 mix of linseed oil and alcohol to restore it. If the wood is dirty, clean it with hot water and a dash of vinegar.
