Utility: Besides making use of any curtain, you can give a room an exotic look.
Difficulty: Low.
Cost: Low.
Materials: - 'Retour' fabric.
- Colored cotton bias piping (fabric stores).
- Tassles of that same color (fabric stores).
Steps:
1. Wet the bias piping so that it will not shrink once sewn or fade. Cut the fabric to suit the size of the window, leaving a margin of 15 cm on the sides. On the upper part, fashion a 1.5 cm hem and use a machine to sew. On the reverse side, place the strips for the ribbons (of the same material) that will be attached to the rod we have cut. This rod should be 25 cm long, at a distance of about 5 to 6 cm.
2. The oriental look to the curtain is achieved by cutting the bottom part with saw-tooth effect. The peaks and valleys should be pronounced to make the effect more exotic. Use cardboard to make an outline and then the fabric carefully.
3. The next step is to sew the bias piping around the curtain. To get a better effect the bias piping's color should contrast with that of the curtain. So choose bold shades. Finally, in each point of the bottom edge, sew a tassle of the same color as the bias piping.
Advices: To achieve a cozy atmosphere in the room where you set up the oriental curtain, there are other Asian touches you can add. It can be a bedspread, a table lamp, a couple of cushions or a mirror hung on the wall near the window.
