Materials:
- Door or shutter.
- Paint stripper, alcohol and aluminum scourig pad.
- Wood primer.
- White water-based acrylic paint.
- Asphalt.
Steps:
1. Clean the wood well with a cloth and warm water. When it dries, apply the stripper to remove the paint. Afterward, scrape the wood with the alcohol and scouring pad. Let is dry.
2. Apply a thick layer of primer. If the wood is deteriorated it is best to apply a layer of white acrylic paint. When it dries, sand it down on the edges so it has a stripped look.
3. To achieve an aged look, use the scouring pad to apply asphalt in the direction of the grain of the wood. Then polish with a cloth.
Advices:
- You will be surprised by the result. Never get rid of an old window or door. You can even find them in trash bins.
- A headboard is something that adds style to a bedroom. You can renovate it with a few hours of work. But you should hang it from the wall while working on it to simplify things. If you have a double bed, place it lengthwise and hang it a bit higher.
- When you achieve the decap� effect you can combine it with any bedspread or cushion.
- If the window is small, you can use it in a child�s room, painting it �decap� blue or apple green. But you can paint it any color actually. It will look good no matter how you do it. |
