Make your own very simple and elegant costume jewellery
The most professional minimalism in your rings, bracelets and necklaces, made by yourself. Minimalism is a tendency characterised by very simple shapes. This trend originated in Europe and can be found in the architecture manifesto entitled Less is more by the German architect Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe, one of the most important architects of this century.

Like all artistic trends and styles, minimalism was taken on board by the creative scene, and moved from architecture to art and fashion. As a result, nowadays we can find very expensive pieces of costume jewellery which we could easily make ourselves, simply by buying the elements and then creating them according to our own imagination and taste.

When choosing the materials we are going to work with, we must consider the basic precepts of minimalism and personal taste. One of the most important premises is that things should be monochrome, that is, the selected objects should be of a single colour. Likewise, according to minimalism only pure colours should be used, such as black, white and red.

The material has to be simple, such as stones, steel... and the shape of the chosen item will be simple and geometric. Circles and squares are very common in this kind of costume jewellery.

Geometrically shaped coloured stones may be found in various specialised costume jewellery shops which sell individual pieces already pierced to assist the jewellery making process.

When we have chosen the stones, either spherical, square or cylindrical... along with the colours we want, we will need wire and a cutter to join them together. The wire is measured according to the desired length of the earrings we are going to make.

Then we thread it through the hole of the piece that we wish to insert and tie a knot at each end to stop the piece falling off.

We then add the next piece and do the same. We continue until we end up with the desired shape. With black spheres and grey squares, for example. We insert a square first, which will be the end of the earring, then a sphere and then another square. To finish off the earring we shape the wire to make a hook and act as a nut.

Geometry, minimalism and formal purity come together in a large range which uses rational concepts based on different attributes or elements. Its main features: the square and the circle are two basic shapes of the jewellery which take on a new dimension thanks to the richness of the stones, sources of inspiration and changes of colour and texture of the metals.

Squares, cubes and rectangles are present in the shapes and also in the details and sizes of the stones. Maximum expression is achieved with checks and playing with squares which can be arranged in different ways, even creating a genuine marquetry effect out of gems.
