Alonso has a points total that is five lower than last season after the twelve races so far in 2004, when he had 44 in 2003. His position in the general, on the other hand is better as he occupies fifth place - in 2003 he was sixth at the same point. This difference can be explained by the three retirements, tenth place at Silverstone and the five points won at Malaysia and Bahrain.
