In an year marked by the tragic death of the Japaneserider, Daijiro Kato, the big star of in MotoGP was Valentino Rossi who earned his fifth woth title. However, one of the biggest surprises was the performance of Sete Gibernau who ended up in the runner-up spot. In 250cc Manuel Poggiali came out on top in a hard-fought battle for the title with Toni El�as finishing third. In 125, the star was Dani Pedrosa who won his first world title.
