Of the first new features that Ford revealed in Detroit, the most notable was the Ford Five Hundred, a saloon that was born to be the flagship model in the four door sector in North America. Next to this model there was the Ford Freestyle, a vehicle with the dynamic aptitudes of an off-road and the versatility of a people-carrier; and the 2005 version of the Ford Mustang sports car.

Referring to the luxury car division, Lincoln, the prototype of a two-seater luxury convertible could be seen at the show, this is called the Lincoln Mark X. Built on the structure of the Ford Thunderbird, the Mark X uses a V8 3.9 litre engine with four valves per cylinder and which produces 280bhp. This power is transmitted to the ground through an automatic gearbox with five speeds.

Under the Mercury mark, two new novelties appeared. On the one hand, in autumn 2004 sales of the Mariner will begin and this will be the first compact off-road that is sold under the Mercury name. On the other hand, the range of average sized American saloons will be enriched with the arrival in the near future of the Mercury Montego. |
