If Renault and Peugeot showed off their Mgane and 307 coup versions respectively last year, now Opel does not want to be left behind. The German manufacturer has made its move and shortly they will be presenting their Tigra TwinTop, a two-seater sports ar with retractable steel roof and an electro-hydraulic mechanism that automatically opens and closes when you press a button. With a dynamic contour and impressive versatility, the new Tigra offers the fresh air of a convertible and the engine of a coup.

It also hides a spacious boot with a volume of up to 440 litres thanks to the ingenious design of the retractable roof that is folded almost vertically within the body. There is an additional storage space of 70 litres available behind the seats, which can make a total of more than 500 litres. The boot is simple to use; at the press of a button the electro-hydraulic mechanism operates the opening and closing system.
As for the mechanics, it is equipped with the innovative Twinport fuel saving technology made by Opel, the new Ecotec 1.4 litre engine on the Tigra generates a power of 90bhp. Both this unit as well as the 125bhp Ecotec 1.8 comply with the specifications of the Euro-4 norms concerning emissions. The prestigious body maker Groupe Henri Heuliez S.A. in Cerizay (France) produces the new Opel Tigra TwinTop. It is predicted that the sales will begin at the end of summer 2004. |
