The government thinks about licence with points
Although at the moment it is not on the agenda, the Spanish Government is thinking about introducing a driving licence with points in a not very distant future. This type of licence punishes drivers who commit offences, in addition to fines, with the loss of points. This method means that drivers lose their licence when they reach a certain number of points. The use of this type of licence has brought positive results in countries like France, where a 20% reduction in mortal traffic accidents has been achieved.
New sales record for Jaguar Hispania
For the sixth consecutive year, Jaguar Hispania has ended the year with two new records: annual sales record and record sales in December, the best month for sales ever. In total Hispania Jaguar managed to sell 2 621 units in 2003, and so it increased sales with respect to 2002 by 7.7%.
Mazda exceeds its forecasts in 2003
Boosted by the novelties of the Mazda2, RX-8 and Mazda3, Mazda ended 2003 having exceeded its initial sales forecasts with a movement of over 9 400 units, that is to say, a 46% increase on the volume registered in 2002. In addition, the company has obtained a new record for the month of December with 1 284 units registered.
The Meriva, Family Car of the Year in Sweden
The Opel Meriva recently received the award Family Car of the Year 2003 in Sweden. A panel, made up of eleven specialised motoring journalists, emphasized the ease of use, the safety levels, the respect for the environment and the running costs of this small Opel people carrier. This is the third time that an Opel model receives this prize, first was the Zafira (in 1999) and then the Agila (in 2000).
Porsche Carrera GT awarded a prize in USA
The magazine from the USA "Popular Science", in their prize section "Best of What�s New" has awarded their "Grand Prize" to the Porsche Carrera GT, in the car category as "Best Innovation for the Car". The critics recognised the innovations on the chassis of this GT Sports car that is driven by a 5.7 litre engine with ten cylinders.
