What happened, makes no doubts about it, to Alonso in Brazil was a real stroke of luck. o crash in the outside and inside of the track at such a high speed and come out with just a few bruises is almost a miracle. Alonso could have seriously injured himself and, although he spent the night in hospital, quite bruised up, it was only as a precaution. He will return home almost immediately in order to prepare for the next GP in Imola. There is, however, soemthing which has passed by almost unnoticed. The Brazilian Gp was chaotic, to intolerable extremes, and with a circuit full of traps. It was the ideal scenery for the great champions to show their class in and for others to end up on the grass. Even the great Schumacher ended up agianst a wall and only a stroke of bad luck kept Barrichello from winning on his home track. Little was seen of Alonso, but he kept in there and, as ever, without making a single mistake. Step by step he made his way up the field and had the victory in his sights. This was an immense show of class and his podium finish has much more merit than that in Malaysia. Alonso doesn't make mistakes. This is his greatest and extraordinary virtue. Back
