The bif record of the day. More than 100,000 spectators turned up for the Spanish F1 GP at Montmel, a level of attendance which had never been seen before in our country. The Alonso effect is, of course, the reason for this human tide which combined in equal parts with the red of Ferrari and the blue of Asturias in the stands. Alonso has made F1 more well-known in our country and alongside established drivers, people are starting to become familiar with names such as Button, Trulli and Sato, who up to a few months ago were relatively unkown. This weekend was intense and pleasant although, that said, Ferrari had absolute control both in qualifying and in the race, which did not leave room for any surprises. The Italians are in a championship of their own and Schumacher is on target to smash all records this year. It was left clear to see in Barcelona that Williams are losing momentum as each race goes by, McLaren is almost down and out and Renault are, surprisingly, in second place in the constructor's championship. For once, Alonso was left behind his team mate Jarno Trulli, who made a fantastic start. The end was also exciting, with Trulli pipping Alonso to the third place on the podium. On the whole the GP was very positive. The next race will take place in Monaco in a fortnight.
