This has been the big news story from the Monaco GP. The accident suffered by Fernando Alonso and his battle with Ralf Schumacher have give way to all manner of opinions. The German driver had already been lapped by Alonso, who had a good chance of winning, caught him. The Williams car was going slowly and Alonso passed him in the middle of the tunnel when, according to the Asturian driver, Schumacher accelerated. The Renault went off track, going through the dirty area and ended up crashing into the rails. After the race there were heated declarations. However, it is unknown whether Alonso tried to pass by too early and that Schumacher craftily returned the gesture from Imola, when the German driver suffered. In all likelihood, both of them are to blame. Ralf Schumacher should have let Alonso overtake him, acting in accordance with F1 regulations, whereas Alonso should have waited until reaching a more suitable place to do so. The Spanish driver has also met up with another unexpected problem in the form of his team mate Jarno Trulli. The Italian driver seemed to be completely eclipsed at the start of the season. However, his last two races have been very good. A podium placing in Barcelona and the victory in Monaco, achieving an extraordinary pole position in the process. His rush to overtake in the middle of the tunnel must have been due to his need to catch up with a car which did not figure in the race predictions. If Trulli takes over as team leader, Alonsos season will change completely.
