Fernando Alonso and Jarno Trulli retired from the Canadian GP in a race in which the Asturian driver could have, according to pre-race predictions, achieved a good result. Efficient in warm-ups and on the starting grid, Fernando was racing his way to a podium placing when the cars transmission broke down, the same problem which his team mate Jarno Trulli had previously suffered. This problem has sounded off the alarm bells in the Renault team, as this weekend the U.S Grand Prix will be disputed in Indianapolis. It has been confirmed that the cars transmission, the semi-axis to be more precise, has not been able to withstand the increase in energy in the engine in the past few races. In any case, it is a big problem, especially taking into account that Renault is one of the front-running teams with aspirations of victory. This is something which needs to be resolved urgently in order to be able to take on the second half of the season with greater hopes. The Ferraris are in a category of their own, but with the Williams team which seems to be recovering and McLaren who are stuck in a rut, Renault needs to overcome a problem which, until recently, it did not have, a shortage of reliability, in order to become the second team in the championship.
