This year the old circuit of Imola is the entry to Europe for Formula 1. And after a very fruitful trip around Asia and Australia, Fernando Alonso will go to this race with the confidence that a solid lead in the general classification gives him, but with the certainty that his rivals will seek a jump in quality at Imola. Not in vain have practically all the top teams announced that they will use improvements on their cars in this race.
Of all the teams Alonso will once again be keeping an eye on the Ferraris and McLarens. For the Italian team it is almost essential to win or at least to fight right to the end for the victory as this is their home testing ground. And so the 248 F1 will include some aerodynamic improvements, with the objective of Michael Schumacher being able to get one over the current leader of the championship. The battle that the two had last year has gone down as one of the greatest duels in the last few years.
The circuit of Imola is near Bologna and the only connection with San Marino is the name, it is a very old circuit with outdated facilities and high kerbs. In addition drivers are obliged to take it anti-clockwise, which is what makes this race especially hard. The temperatures will be quite a bit lower than in the last three races, which will make things easier for the teams. |
