Alonso works on his physical preparation in Kenya

Fernando Alonso, Jarno Trulli and Franck Montagny have spent a week in Kenya working on their physical preparation at the estate that Flavio Briatore owns there. This is a custom that the Italian tycoon has repeated for the last few years.

The Lion in the Sun is the name of the imposing mansion that Briatore owns in Malindi. There the two Renault drivers and the reserve, Montagny, have carried out a demanding physical workout. The days began at 6.00am - to avoid the midday heat- and included mountain bike, constant running, trekking across dunes, canoeing, the gymnasium... under the supervision of Edoardo and Fabricio, the teams PE instructors.

Really it is no so tough admits Alonso. We get up early but that is to beat the heat. This helps us to stay fit after another week in the UK. For Flavio Briatore this is a very important week and we do not only work on the physical side: We have a lot of time to talk too, and we have a quiet week overall. The objective is to get to know each other better and of course to train. The Italian busineesman even does some sport with the drivers. Briatore is just in the photo jokes Alonso.

This is the second ime that the Spaniard has gone to this type of training in Kenya. For Franck Montagny it is the first time: This is an important week, day after day we get to know each other better. The setting is incredible. The Frenchman perhaps is referring to the private beach, the four swimming pools and the gymnasium, among other luxuries, that make up this five hectare refuge.
