Sauber spends 30 million in the wind tunnel

Sauber now have a wind tunnel. This is the most important investment that the Swiss team has ever made it cost 30 million euros and for the construction the most advanced technology was used.

"The top teams made enormous progress in aerodynamics throughout the last few seasons and we had to take this step", says a hopeful Peter Sauber, boss of the team. "This wind tunnel is unique in the motorsports world. This is a tool vital for creating a really competitive racing car, since the aerodynamics make the difference nowadays".

The construction of the wind tunnel began in January 2002 and now it has concluded, almost two years later. It has a length of 141 metres and the team will be able to carry out tests with cars at a scale of 60%. With this ultramodern tool Peter's Sauber team hope to make a big jump in quality and to become the fifth team in Formula 1.

On the other hand, this ties Sauber and Ferrari even tighter. The president of Ferrari, Luca di Montezemolo, said that Giancarlo Fisichella and Felipe Massa could test for his team throughout the 2004 season. Peter Sauber admits: "The situation is proposed but we still have not discussed it thoroughly but in principle it is possible". The Italian Sauber driver has never denied that he dreams of driving a 'red bullet': This is great news for me. If finally there is some cooperation, I will work as a real professional".
