After the last pit stop Alonsos car began to have problems with the front suspension. This meant that Jenson Button was able to overtake him and that David Coulthard was getting dangerously close to him. "I had three laps of hell, putting in laps that were five seconds slower. I even got a call by radio to enter the pits, but when I went over a piano I noticed a knock and the car began to go well. Lady luck was on my side this time " he explained. "I suffered but I enjoyed driving the car. On the curves it went well, but not so good on the straights " he added.
The race was, for the Renault driver, spectacular. His duel with Button went down very well with the public. Alonso says that at those moments he was having a great time "I enjoyed those laps a lot. I had to close him out in every way I could: on the inside, the outside, driving in parallel... When he left the pits he was faster than me ". Another remarkable moment was the start when he overtook both the Mclarens and Montoya. "The one at Indianapolis was even better" he recalls.
With his third podium of the year in his pocket, the Spaniard is now off to enjoy some well deserved vacations, after that he will have two races that are underlined in his particular calendar, Hungary and Belgium, especially the first. "It will be difficult to repeat the victory at the Hungaroring, but it is a good circuit for the characteristics of the R24, so we will fight to get onto the podium again. We will be there very eager to do well".
