THE BOUTIQUE THE WEATHER INTERACTIVE CAMPSA GUIDE
Buttons new life

Jenson Button has become one of the top drivers in Formula 1 this season. It all seems so simple now, but his start back in 2000 with Williams was not so pleasant.

Button arrived in Formula 1 at the tender age of twenty and indeed he did not go to a small team like Minardi or Jordan. He raced his first GP with Williams. He was at that moment the youngest driver in the paddock. His first performances were convincing, managing to score points in the second race of the year. But little by little his performances dropped and his career took a twist. The glamour of F1 was eating him up until racing was secondary. Sports cars adorned the garage of his luxury mansion.

"At that time I was enjoying myself a lot, but as soon as the performances suffered people say that you are not concentrated on your racing" the British driver explains. After his experience at Williams, he passed to Renault, where he was a test driver for a year and the following one an official driver. His redemption arrived at BAR Honda. Last year he had a very good serious season, obtaining more points than his team mate, Jacques Villeneuve.

The definitive recognition from the paddock has come this season, where he is third in the World Championship after getting onto the podium seven times. "I think that I have lost the image that I had. I have matured. I have a fiance and I have sold the cars and the yacht. I realised that I did wrong but now I am happy and I am concentrated " he admits. Button is, definitively, one of great stars of this sport, a driver who will aspire to the title for many years to come.
