The ex McLaren driver was in podium positions for a large part of the race, but the impressive fightback from Fernando Alonso left Red Bull without a prize. "The podium was possible today. It would have been a dream beginning for the team and at moments I thought that I would be able to do it" said Coulthard a few minutes after crossing the finishing line "But I cannot complain about fourth position. It is, without a doubt, more than what we expected".
Now the doubt is whether Red Bull will be able to repeat these results in the next few races or whether it got it because of the changing weather conditions during the Australian GP. "Our pace in the race was better than BMW Williams. We won the seven points. This car is better than the Jaguar; Cosworth has done a good job. We have a good set up. In winter we were setting good times, but I thought that perhaps the others were being more conservative" explained a satisfied Coulthard.
Christian Kliens performance was also positive. The Austrian, who is going race in the second car alternating with Vitantonio Liuzzi, finished the opening race of the season in seventh position after maintaining a constant pace during the 58 laps. "It is fantastic that we have won points in the first GP. The team has done a good job and has managed to find a consistent car" said the young driver.
