Telefonica could sponsor Alonso
Telef�nica is finishing negotiations to sponsor Fernando Alonso and Renault starting in 2004. To begin with the company only wanted to use their image on the driver but the team wants the Telefonica logo to be on the car too. The Spanish multinational was in Formula 1 in 1999 and 2000 with Minardi, spending �30m. The agreement with Renault could cost them about �8m per season, an operation that they think could be profitable.
Sauber will not use three cars
Peter Sauber has confirmed that his team will will not use three cars for training on the Friday before a GP, only permitted for the last six teams in the classification. �We have no money to do that all season� complained the boss of the Swiss team who does not rule out doing it at one or two races in 2004.
The French GP gets money
It seems that the French GP will finally take place, it has been walking a tightrope in the last few years because of financial problems. The French Motor Sports Federation has sent a contract to Formula One Management which includes the financial guarantees necessary for the race tyo take place. Magny Cours, therefore, will host a Formula 1 race on 4th July.
Barrichello and Ferrari in contract talks
Rubens Barrichello�s contract with Ferrari finishes at the end of 2004. For that reason both parties have started to speak about an extension. �I want to start the championship with my future sorted out. I am very happy here in Maranello and i would like to continue� says the Brazilian. Jean Todt does not seem to be in any hurry: �We are vey satisfied with our drivers. We will extend the contract whe it is convenient, but until that happens we will have to consider other alternatives�.
Montoya drives Sainz�s kart
Juan Pablo Montoya took advantage of his free days after training at Jerez to go to Madrid with his wife, Connie, so that he could try out Carlos Sainz�s karts at the circuit of Las Rozas that belongs to the rally driver. The Colombian is a great fan of the Spanish capital and one of his winter hobbies is to drive Sainz�s karts.
