Puma, another sponsor for Renault
Renault has announced an agreement with the sportswear company Puma, who will now dress up at the members of the team starting in 2004. We are very satisfied to welcome Puma an associate of ours says Flavio Briatore. Its young and sporty image corresponds perfectly to the spirit of Renault in Formula 1. Fernando Alonso continues to bring money to the French team and they may well soon receive a cash injection from the multinational Telefnica.
Ecclestone wants F1 to continue growing
Bernie Ecclestones intention is for Formula 1 to slowly move away from Europe and to hold more races in other parts of the world. In 2004 there will be ten GPs in the old continent, four in Asia, one in Oceania and three in America. We will have to remove some races which are now held in Europe. Our sponsors want to get into new growing markets says the enthusiastic Mr Big of F1. India and South Korea are some of the next objectives.
Verstappen will be Jordans first signing
Jos Verstappens signing by Jordan can be rounded off at any moment. The negotiations, already quite long, seem to be heading for a happy ending for both parties. The team whose base is in Silverstone needs, in addition to a good driver, an important cash injection and Verstappen has the support of the Trust company. The Dutchman has even visited Jordans base. In spite of this unmistakeable signal, the drivers representative, Raymond Vermeulen, still does not want to confirm anything: "We are optimistic, but the conversations are continuing".
Ferraris presentation on 26th January
The Ferrari team will make its official presentation for the 2004 season on 26 Monday 26th January. The World Champion team will show off their new F2004-EF. The car is dedicated to Enzo Ferrari (in 2003 the car carried the name of Gianni Agnelli). Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello will have the opportunity of driving it for the first time the following day, 27th, at the circuit in Fiorano.
The first R24 is finished
Renault has now completed the construction of their R24, a car that their drivers will use in 2004. The assembly of the first R24 has finished and the new engine has been started without any problems said Bob Bell, technical director of the team. Jarno Trulli will be the man responsible for driving the first few miles in it. This will take place on 20th January at the circuit of Barcelona. Fernando Alonso will take over from him a few days later.
