VALENTINO ROSSI, NATURAL LEADERSHIP

What role do the following people have in your life?
Your father, Graziano.
"Besides being my father, Graziano has always been one the main people in my sporting career. He was the person who started me off and supported me when I started to become interested in the world of motorbikes and competition."
Your mother, Stefana.
"My mother has always preferred to keep her distance from the races, for her the most important thing is that I am well and that I am happy. She normally gives me advice on personal matters, but with regards to races it is usually my father who can advise me at a given moment."
Your friend, Uccio.
"He is my best friend and has worked for me for several yeards, being in charge of the motorhome and accompanying me to race meetings. We have known each other since we were very little and this is an advantage when working together."
Your manager, Gibo.
"Gibo is not only my manager, but he is my friend as well. Let's say that we could split it 50/50, that is to say, he is 50% my manager and 50% my friend. We have a very special relationship, not only do we speak about motorbikes, but also aboutour personal matters."

A myth in the world of motorbikes?
"Kevin Schwantz, out of all of those from his generation he was the one who most impressed me. He was very spectacular and brave, he used to brake like no other and he never settled on finishing second."

A person of reference outside of racing?
"Ronaldo, the footballer. Due to his character, personality and professionalism, and because he is one of a kind."

Is there life away from racing?
"Yes, of course. In the World Cup, everybody who works here is completely dedicated to their job, but there are many interesting things to do outside of this environment. Away from racing, I like to spend time with my family and friends, who are without a doubt the two most important things in my life."

Dogs or cats?
"I would have to say dogs, I don't like cats at all. I have got a bulldog which I call Guido, with whom I have very interesting conversations when we are alone... Besides, Guido accompanies me on the bike, as I have a picture of him on the rear end of my bike. Guido lives in Italy with my mother, due to fact that I can't, what with all the constant jorneys, have him with me in London".

The sea or mountains?
"Mountains..., although I also like the sea around Ibiza a lot".

What does fame taste of?
"Fame is a mixture of sweet and sour flavours. The sweet flavour is because of the advantages which being famous brings, but sour when you become famous. You stop having all the privacy and calmness which you would like to enjoy."

The class bookworm or a wild-child?
"The class bookworm certainly not, rather a bit of a wild-child, although neither was I one of the worst. I didn't like to study, despite having a good memory and I didn't find it too difficult..."

A car?
"Ever since I was little, I have always loved Porsches. At the moment, my favourite is the 911 GT2,a very fun "toy"...".

Does music tame the wild?
"
I like music very much, but I think that all music has its moment. Personally, it helps me both to relax and to get psyched up."

Champagne on the podium, does it taste any different?
"I don't like champagne very much, but of course, champagne on the podium is another matter, that I do like, and a lot!"

The Euro confuses me?
"No, although of course, once having got used to the change of money. What happens is that it seems as if you are spending less when in fact it is the opposite. But anyway, the most important thing is that you have enough money to spend."

A quality?
"I am very honest, I always say what I think."

A defect?
"I always arrive late, this is something that I cannot avoid, as hard as I try."

Marital status?
"Single. I had a girlfriend a few months ago, but I think it is best to stay single what with the lifestyle that we have. It is very difficult to maintain a relationship when you are always away from home, travelling, from country to country... One option is that your girlfriend goes with you to the race meetings, but that doesn't convince me."

A religion?
"I am a practicing Catholic."

Ideologically,are you left-wing or right-wing?
"I am not in the least interested in politics, I haven't got ideas of any type and it is one the things which I least like."

The best thing about living in London...
"In London you can find everything you are looking for; if you want peace and quiet, if you want parties and hustle and bustle, London is the city. There is a great variety of things there from which to choose, and there are restaurants with all types of cuisine from all around the world."

The worst thing about living in London...
"The traffic and the weather. For a "Latino", getting used to living in a place where it rains so much and where the sun hardly shines is quite difficult. And the traffic, because getting around London is practically impossible, be it by car or on motorbike."

I miss...
"I miss having a Brazillian model by my side who measures 1 metre 80... No, seriously, there isn't anything that I really miss, I have all that I need in order to be happy."

"Spain is different"?
"Yes, sure. I love Spain, it is a marvellous country and for me, it is one of the most beautiful places in the world."

I would define myself as...
"Above all, I would say that I am a fun person, I like to have a good time and enjoy life, in the company of my friends and family."
