THE BOUTIQUE THE WEATHER INTERACTIVE CAMPSA GUIDE
Fonsi Nieto sets the crowd alight.
The Jerez legend continues to grow.
At a circuit full to the brim, with 127000 spectators a new record, Spanish motorcycling has lived moments of great excitement and which will take a long time to forget.

Fonsi Gonzlez Nietos first victory lit the fuse, fireworks were set off and lex Crivills fareweel was the perfect prologue. Emilio Alzamora, third, rounded off the success in 250cc. Pablo Nieto, however, was not able to take advantage of his pole as he fell on the eighth lap. Jorge Lorenzo was most happy with his debut in the WSC. The Derbi rider, the youngest in the championship only 15, was able to pick up the pace and finished in a worthy 23rd position.

Pablos bad luck had the opposite effect on Daniel Pedrosa, who benefitted from De Angelis and Poggialis falls and crossed the line in fourth position. In MotoGP, the victory was for an italian, but who is liked as much as any local ride. Valentino Rossi got his second triumph in the category at this track, inwhere he will always remember his previous victories in 125 and 250. On the podum at Jerez he was accompanied by, Daijiro Kato, the third time on the podium for him in his third 500cc race, and Tohru Ukawa. Sete Gibernau finished ninth and Carlos Checa had to retire on the last lap, when he was sixth.

Fonsi Nieto showed a banner in honour of lex: 'Alex Crivill, n 1', on the starting grid. For him it was a dedication for the first sporting triumph in his career. Fonsis tactics were conservative at the start and aggressive at the end, he was intelligent enough to conserve his tyres and when he had a chance he overtook Roberto Rolfo to launch himself to the glory. Emilio Alzamora, suffering because of the fall yesterday that put him back in ninth position on the grid, fought back until he reached the leading group. At the end, a private battle between Battaini and Melandri, ending with both of them on the floor, let Alzamora in and he crossed the line in third position. With this result, Fonsi Nieto is the new leader of the WSC 250cc, whilst Emilio is fourth six points behind. The battle in 250cc is beginning to get interesting.
