Repsol N1 in Frace GP
Valentino Rossi, Fonsi Nieto and Lucio Cecchinello were the victors at the French Grand Prix in the three categories. And another Spanish rider, Daniel Pedrosa, also finished on the podium; third in 125.
Carlos Checa, who had a lot of hopes riding on him after his great shows in training, fell on the eighth laap when he found a stone in the middle of the track, at that moment he was fourth, just behind Max Biaggi, who finished third. Checa could have finished were his team mate was.
Moto GP
Rossi had never won at the circuit of Le Mans and today the sky waited for him to take the lead and then it released some raindrops, these were enough for the marshalls to declare the race over six laps from the end. So Rossi confirms his lead in the WSC MotoGP; he has three victories and one second place. Tohru Ukawa has had to make do with second place in spite of having been leader of the race from the ninth lap. Max Biaggis third place confirms Yamahas improvement.
250
Fonsi Nieto has got his second consecutive victory in 250cc. "It was not the same as in Jerez, but the points are good for me", said Fonsi. Perhaps the emotion was not the same, but the triumph at Le Mans is even more important because it not only reaffirms him as leader of the WSC classification in his category, with a lead of 17 points over Roberto Rolfo, but has also demonstrated that in a straight fight with Marco Melandri, Fonsi is at the moment the stronger. The race became a duel between these two Aprilia riders, with Randy De Puniet far off but with third position assured. Toni Elas has also got his best result since Racing in 250cc, he was sixth, whilst Emilio Alzamora was not happy in seventh in spite of starting on the grid in 15th place.

125
Lucio Cecchinello is also celebrating his second consecutive victory, in a race where Manuel Poggiali tried to catch him on the final lap. At the end, the rider from San Marino crossed the line second and Daniel Pedrosa, in another intelligent and risky race knew how to handle the pressure from Arnaud Vincent, who was pushing him from behind. The Frenchman is still leader of the classification with 78 points, whilst Pedrosa is fourth, with 53.
